Design course - lectures and prototypes

A theoretical and practical course aimed at an in-depth study of ceramics, starting from the technical and aesthetic properties of the material to its production and applications in the field of Design.

The course aims to elaborate with the students’ reflections on the multiple meanings that can be conveyed through the use of one of the primary materials in design: ceramics. The focus of the workshop is on a specific production technique, the extrusion, which addresses both the industrial and artisan aspects of ceramic working.

Through theoretical lessons, preparatory to the design and laboratory phase, students will be guided in the development of the design process, from the elaboration of the concept to the construction of a manual press for the realization of samples, material experiments, and small extruded prototypes.

Students will be confronted with the possibilities and limits of self-production, a practice that is very present in contemporary design, and will have to search for suitable or alternative solutions to achieve their project objectives.
