For the two weeks workshop in Vitanje at the Cultural Centre of European Space Technologies (KSEVT), we took part in a research group to address the content of Space culturization involving local inhabitants.
We took the playground facing the main building as the symbol of pedagogic structure for public space. Trying to bridge the academic culture of KSEVT with local popular one, we took children as the protagonist of a creation of structures to appropriate the contents of Space culture and to represent their own understanding and contribution.
Opening up the public space surrounding the KSEVT, we hacked present elements to suggest rituals of appropriation and collective construction of a new relation with the planetary dimension.
This feedback is a “down-to-earth“ contribution to discussions on a global level and an alternative model of interaction.
1. study of the sociality of the space
surrounding the cultural center
We started from mapping of toursits and locals flows in Vitanje and we made a parallel between the cultural institution of the village and provocative design proposals.
2. study on the location of intervention
on the emblematic PUBLIC LANDMARKS
After further interaction with the inhabitants, we focused our attention on the existing elemnts of the square facing the KSEVT: frist on the hut, symbol of local lumberjacks, and then on the playground, gathering space for kids, parents and teenagers.
3. Proposal for an astronaut training playground
Playground are often banal and there is a lack of pedagogic thoughts in their design. For these reasons we hacked existing stuctures to experiment the potential of our approach.
In the last week we focused on a 1:1 prototype of our installation proposal. The structure was built in collaboration with local inhabitants.
